Georgian Airways has been accused by Bachiashvili of participating in his abduction. In 2023, it resumed flights to Russia, leading to Ukrainian sanctions against its owners, the Gaiashvili family. Some reports allege the airline has assisted Russian carriers and benefited from significant debt forgiveness by the Georgian government. Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has publicly called for a boycott of the company.
